My Top 3 Picks for Social Media Post Schedulers

When it comes to social media for business, I feel like I've tried it all. And as I've said before, I've been running business/professional profiles since MySpace days. That's a long time to figure out what works and what doesn't. The one thing I figured out early on and that has never changed is simple - you need a good scheduler for all your posts.

Without a scheduler, I could never post constantly. Yeah, I could set reminders but at some point, I would be too busy to realize my ideal posting time had long since passed. Facebook (and by association, Instagram business accounts), Twitter, YouTube, and even Pinterest have some form of a scheduler built-in while others lack this bit of code. And these schedulers work perfect for someone with a small amount of accounts or who doesn't mind flipping between sites. But personally, I like it all in one place. So today I'm going over my top picks for social media scheduling apps and websites.

Canva

Canva is well-known amongst bloggers, social media managers, and digital product creators for its ability to create beautiful, shareable images easily, without almost zero design experience, and for free. But if you happen to have a paid account (which I highly suggest for all the upgraded features and images), they also have a Content Planner, which allows you to connect with multiple pages and profiles, great if you are like me and run social accounts for multiple brands. You can access the Content Planner directly to schedule your posts from the calendar or you can schedule them while creating your image. I personally find this super handy when creating pins. The biggest downside for Canva's Content Planner is the fact that once an image is scheduled for use, you cannot use it to schedule another post until it's been posted. You have the option to copy the image to a new file, but I don't like having a bunch of copies of the same image just for posting purposes. Currently Canva allows scheduling and automatic posting to LinkedIn Pages and Profiles, Instagram Business accounts, Facebook Pages and Groups, Twitter, Pinterest, Slack, and Tumblr. On the go? You can access the Content Planner directly from the app or the mobile site.

Later

Later was the first Instagram scheduler I heard of and have enjoyed using it over the years. I don't currently have a paid account with them, but definitely would consider it down the road as they add features. The biggest difference I have seen between their paid and free versions are monthly posting limits and file type limits. (From here forward, I will just talk about the free version benefits as it is the version I use.) Later allows users to upload their own images or pull directly from Unsplash's library of stock photos. Users can schedule 30 posts per social account each month and the same image can be used to schedule multiple posts without reuploading. Later also has a free bio link for Instagram, a valuable resource for anyone wanting to direct IG traffic to a specific URL for each post. Currently Later allows scheduling to both personal and creator IG accounts, but due to the IG/FB limitations, auto-publishing is not allowed, same goes for TikTok. So the user will need to have the Later app installed on their phones to receive a push notification. Additionally, on the free level a user can schedule and auto-publish to Instagram Business accounts, Facebook Pages, Twitter, Pinerest, and LinkedIn.

Publer

Publer came on my radar when looking for a way to schedule Google My Business posts for my real estate clients. According to old emails, I know Later has this feature in the works but Publer has it now. And that is what I needed. I personally use their Aurum (gold) plan so I can have all the bells and whistles. As one of 3 software/app purchases I have each month, I won't let it go any time soon (Canva is the second and second most important, Microsoft 365 is the other and it's only for the OneDrive storage 🤷). Publer allows free users to schedule and auto-post up to 10 posts at a time. Once a post has been shared, it's space is freed back up to schedule something else. Additionally, free users can save up to 25 drafts, link to their Google Drive and Dropbox accounts for images, have access to the Unsplash library and have a free bio link as well. In addition to being the only site with free scheduling to GMB, they are the only ones on my list that allows text only posts to the platforms that support it. There are others of course, Hootsuite being the other that pops into my mind, but Publer has a lot more scheduling features than Hootsuite. A feature I love is the ability to have Canva share PNG or JPG images directly to my Publer library (a paid Publer feature) for easy scheduling. I still have to upload my own videos or GIFs, but that is OK with me. The two downsides are 1) no app at this time but it is a highly requested feature that I am sure they are working on and 2) Pinterest hasn't given API access so pins are actually scheduled via Zapier, a limitation if you pin a lot or need your zaps for more important stuff.

(Side note, one of the upcoming Publer features will be comment monitoring and responding via Kibo.)

Which Scheduler is Best for You?

I can't tell you which scheduler is best for you and your posting needs, but I can tell you I recommend all 3 for different reasons. If you only have $15 per month to spend, I would say invest in Canva's premium account for access to all their goodness including the content planner and then supplement with the free versions of Publer and Later. If you can afford another $10-20 per month, definitely get a premium account on either of the other two because they offer great premium features.

Planning and scheduling social posts doesn't have to be stressful, expensive, or difficult. You just need to find the right scheduler for your business and you!

Until next time, my lovelies!
