What is the Difference between the Dark Moon and New Moon?
If you ask what the difference between the dark moon and the new moon is, you might get an answer, but most people will be left scratching their heads. Even if they know, they may give you a more scientific response over an energy based one. So what is the difference? And which should you focus your energy on?
Scientifically - What is the Difference between the Dark Moon and New Moon?
According to astronomy (not to be confused with astrology), the dark moon is the period of time when the moon is not illuminated and is going from its waning phase to its waxing (from smaller to bigger). The new moon is the exact second of time when the moon is at its darkest. (It only lasts a second because the rotations between the sun, moon and earth. Or so the planetarium told me once upon a time.) This moment of 0% illumination is also the exact midpoint of the dark moon.
Spiritually - What is the Difference between the Dark Moon and New Moon?
So according astrology and energy workers, the dark moon is still the time when the moon is at its darkest as it ends its waning phase but before it start its waxing phase. In other words, the moon is dark up to that moment of and including 0% illuminated. After that moment, the moon slowly becomes visible again and is new because it has entered the waxing phase.
Which Moon Should You Focus On?
Well my lovelies, that is entirely up to you! If you are looking to have some retrospect and look inward, the dark moon is for you. If you want to focus on a new beginning or manifesting, then the new moon is your buddy. But these two also work hand-in-hand. Maybe you need to clear your head and heart before you start a new path. Having a separate time to focus on yourself then what you want to bring into your life can be very helpful in releasing what no longer serves you. If that is the case, focus on the dark moon energy the day/night on or before the moon is at 0% (let's be honest, some of us only have time to ourselves during daylight hours, it's OK!) and then the next day/night focus on the new moon energy.
Until next time, my lovelies!
